Prescribed Fire
The MRC Prescribed Fire program works alongside the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association, State and Federal Agencies and local volunteer fire departments to increase prescribed fire capacity in the Mattole and Southern Humboldt.
Since 2021 we have coordinated numerous National Wildfire Coordinating Group classes to increase local fire qualifications necessary to implement prescribed fire projects including:
- S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws
- ICS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System
- L-180 Human Factore in the Wildland Fire Service
- S-130 Firefighter Training
- S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior
- IS-700 NIMS: National Incident Management System (NIMS) Introduction
- RT-130 Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher
- S-131 Firefighter Type 1
- S-290 Intermediate Fire Behavior
We have been proud members of the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association since its inception and are working to start a Lower Mattole Prescribed Burn Association to grow the number of community led burning projects. In addition, we also have many burns planned as part of State Coastal Conservancy, CalFire, US Department of Ag and Bureau of Land Management funded restoration partnerships.
