SITE VISITS

The MRC's Good Roads, Clear Creeks Program staff are available to visit your property and assess your road issues. If you have a troublesome culvert, an inboard ditch that always clogs, or too much surface water on your road, MRC can offer professional advice for your road AND assist you in preventing salmon habitat damage. MRC respects a landowner's desire for confidentiality.

MAPPING SERVICES

The MRC Geographic Information Systems staff are available to make custom maps of your property. Maps can depict anything from old-growth forests, roads, streams, property boundaries, aerial views from 1942, 1965, or 1998, and topography. Visit the GIS Program's page for more information.

The Tributary Files at the Petrolia office.

The Watershed Resource Center has been providing Mattole residents with information for over ten years. Please come see what is available at our Petrolia office between Monday and Thursday, 9am to 5pm or by appointment. The Whitethorn Office has selected materials in-house. If you wish to see something that's available in the Petrolia office, we can arrange to get it to you at the Whitethorn office.

The library contains hundreds of materials related to land management and watershed monitoring. Many materials are available for checking out--search our database. To reserve one of these items, please call our Petrolia office or e-mail Lauren with your selection.

Books: We have books on salmon natural history, land management, roads and road practices, forestry, watershed management, natural history, and more. All titles are arranged in a database for fast searching.

Aerial Photographs: We have complete sets of aerial photos of the watershed for years 1942, 1966, 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996 (Upper North Fork only). The 1992 set is available digitally in the GIS system. Much of this material is available for check-out, or can be photocopied or scanned.

Tributary Files: We have the most complete store of information about all Mattole tributaries anywhere. Tributary files include maps, land statistics, land use and zoning, and other data for each tributary within the watershed.

Maps: We have all Mattole watershed USGS topographic maps,as well as maps created by the MRC Geographic Information System (GIS). Many of the maps created in the GIS are for sale for as little as $1 each.

Technological Assistance: The Petrolia office has a fax machine, xerox machine, internet connection, scanner, and color printer. Staff available to offer technological assistance for watershed-related projects free of charge, or for an hourly fee for personal projects. Call the Petrolia office for rates.

Fact Sheets: The Resource Center has fact sheets available for Mattole residents. Fact sheets give useful information and tips about: Fire and Fire Safety, Water Conservation, Roads and Road Maintenance, and Creek Care. You may download these files here, or receive a hard copy by calling or visiting either office.

Watershed Resource Center hours are Monday through Thursday, 9am to 5pm or by appointment. The Watershed Resource Center is located in Petrolia, upstairs in the back of the Mattole Valley Community Center.
